Platform 9 and 3/4 is concrete, with tiny miniscule cracks running through it. A pall of steam hangs in the air from the Hogwarts Express, which sits idly on the tracks. The train is impressive in its stature, with a gleaming red finish and golden trim. Clearly, it is the pride and joy of those who run it, and is kept in perfect working condition, with the little help of magic here and there. The windows sparkle, the wheels shine, and it is a perfect specimen of a train.

Chloe hurried through the station, dragging her trunk and owl's cage behind her. She took a quick glance around the platform, no one was watching her. She stepped through the barrier and came upon the Hogwarts Express.
She stored her trunk and cage away, and began looking for a compartment to sit in. She found an empty one and sat down, staring out the window. She recognized a few people, none of which she was close to, and smiled ironically as they all waved goodbye to their parents.
"I'm leaving," Chloe called through her house. Her voice echoed back to her eerily. "Hello?"
"But of course, you aren't home." She shook her head and wrapped her fingers around her suitcase. "Bye," she whispered to the silence.
Chloe continued to stare through the window. She heard a whistle from the front of the train. "And so it begins... a new year."

Bella Black walked through the wall that divided the Platform from the Muggle world, and surveyed the area with mild distaste. She put down her bag and ran a sharp eye over the returning students.
She looked at her nails for a second, painted blood red, to ensure that they hadn't been chipped. They were fine. She actually didn't care much for her nails, but they provided a distraction from the hubub of the station.
She picked up her bag again, and boarded the train, quickly picking her favourite compartment, and settling down in it. She pulled out a novel and began to read.

Chloe sat back in her seat, leaning her head against the wall behind her. She could hear voices in the compartments next to her, and out in the hallway.
She rolled her eyes.
Chloe knew she wouldn't be bothered in her compartment, she had never made a lot of close friends that would try and find her. "That must change this year," she said to herself. "You can't grow up a hermit."

Bella tapped her feet and nodded her head in time with her foot, utterly bored and completely ready to have some fun. But fun, here on the Hogwarts Express? Wouldn't happen unless her cousins arrived and she could start a fight with Sirius.... or one of those horrible Gryffindors. Who wouldn't give their eyeteeth to begin a fight with one of those muggle-lovers?

Jaye Valore walked down the empty aisle in the Hogwarts Express searching enthusiastically for an open compartment. All other students returning to school were already sitting in a compartment. Jaye, though, was a bit late. She walked steadily glancing side to side looking for an open compartment. Finally she found an open one and took a seat close to the window and gazed out.

Andromeda ran full-speed toward the platform, an excited gleam in her eyes as she took in the familiar sights and smells. The wheels of her cart screeched as she came to an abrupt halt into front of the Hogwarts Express sign. Despite the anxious feeling that governed her current actions, she could not help but dread the unavoidable family gathering.
How is one supposed to act toward their sisters? That question, however simple it seems, is what ran through her head all summer. She shook her head slightly in order to dispel those thoughts and gave the worker her luggage. A small bag containing her school robes and wand was draped over her shoulder as she entered the train. Now there is only one question.
Where am I going to sit?

Raph felt like a bit of an ass walking up to the enormous train -- first off, although he had been attending Hogwarts for some years now, the idea of magic and magic trains scared him a bit, frankly. He wouldn't label himself 'safe' particularly, but strange things did unnerve him, more than slightly that is. He felt like an utter wanker carrying his new suitcase in one hand, and his cat in the other. His grandfather had left him at the wall, saying he was too old to go through the platform, although that felt like a vague... well. Goodbye that was very goood, if you know what that means. In other words, Raph felt like he was being gotten rid of.
And in a way his parents and grandparents were glad that he had been accepted to the crackpot school, the school where he would go for the next couple years to become a man. A man? What was he thinking? He was stupid, that's all he was right now. And he had no friends, to compound his misery.
Surely life couldn't get any worse, or better.

Gabriella rushed onto the platform, hurrying to the train, since she didn't want to miss it. She was having some trouble with her trunk as she heaved it, nearly chipping a nail. Gabriella said bitterly, "And I just got my nails done as well." She was rushing because she looked at the time on her watch and it said it was 10:50 AM, but when she looked at the clock, it was only 10:01 AM. She rolled her eyes and moved the case, trying to get it into the train.
